Wotwat — Privacy Policy

Wotwat is a game where people vote TRUE or FAKE on trending claims.
We are built to keep as little about you as possible: most of what the app
remembers about you stays on your own phone and is never uploaded.
What we store in the cloud
- Account (only if you sign in): if you sign in with Google we store
your name, email address and profile picture. In guest mode we store none of
these — just a random anonymous identifier your phone generates for itself.
- Your votes: when you vote TRUE/FAKE we keep that vote, tied to your
account or anonymous id. We need it to count the community percentage shown on
each card and to stop the same person voting on the same card twice.
- Saved cards: cards you bookmark, so they are there on your next
visit.
- Reading history (only if you sign in): for signed-in users we keep
the cards you have opened, linked to your account, so your history follows you
to a new phone. It is not used to profile you or to target ads. In
guest mode it stays only on your phone and is never uploaded.
- Age status (only if you sign in): whether you are 18 or older, and —
if you are under 18 — the date you turn 18, so full access opens by itself and
the setting works across your devices. We keep this, not your full date
of birth, and it is used only to decide which content and ads are appropriate,
never to target you. In guest mode it stays only on your phone.
- Cards you have already seen (only if you sign in): for signed-in
users we keep a plain list of card IDs you have been shown, linked to your
account id. It has one purpose — so the app does not show you the same card
again after you reinstall or switch phones. It is not used to profile
you, to decide what to show you next, and it is never shared with ad
networks. We keep it for about 30 days and then delete it automatically. In
guest mode we do not store this at all — the "already seen" check stays
entirely on your phone.
- Advertising: ads are served by Google AdMob, which may process your
advertising ID as described in
Google's privacy policy.
What stays only on your phone
- Your player stats — streaks and daily goals.
- Your topic choices and language.
- Your reading history, if you play as a guest — signed-in
reading history syncs to your account (see above).
None of these are uploaded. They live in the app's local storage, and
clearing history or uninstalling the app removes them.
What we do NOT do
- We do not collect behavioural analytics — we do not log which cards
you skip, peek at or open in order to build an interest profile. (We used to
keep a small usage-events log; we stopped, and deleted it, in August 2026.)
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not post anything on your behalf.
- We do not claim to decide what is true. The app never issues a verdict of
its own: a card shows how other players voted, and what news outlets and
fact-checking organizations have published — both reported as counts, and
both attributed.
Where it is stored
The cloud items above are stored with Supabase (our database provider).
Everything in "stays only on your phone" never leaves your device.
How long we keep it
- Account, votes, saved cards and reading history: kept while your
account exists, and removed when you delete your account (see below). You can
also clear your reading history at any time from the History screen.
- Seen-card list (signed-in users only): automatically deleted after
about 30 days by a scheduled job — it is never kept longer than the few weeks
the app actually uses it for.
- On-device data: stays until you clear history or uninstall; it is
entirely under your control.
Deleting your data
See Account deletion. Deleting your account
removes your account record, your votes, your saved cards, your reading history
and your seen-card list within 30 days. Guest data kept only on your phone
(reading history, stats) is removed the moment you clear history or uninstall
the app.
Children
Wotwat is not directed at children under 13.
